Many of us go through life not having a clue why we were created. Yet, we have been created for a purpose. Scripture clearly says that God has a purpose for His people.

God has not rejected and disowned His people [whose destiny] He had marked out and appointed and foreknown from the beginning. Romans 11:2 AMP

Some of you know what that is, others don’t have a clue. A few weeks ago, I woke up to the song, “I was born to love you in everything I do.” Born to love Him! I was born to love Him. You were born to love Him, to have intimacy with Him, to know Him; to know Him in all of your ways. This is destiny. You were created to have fellowship with God.

But He also has a specific calling and direction for each of us to walk in. This, too, is destiny. Over the past few years, I have seen a thread of something that God is doing in my life. Many times, it is almost a theme. For instance, in 2007 God’s word that rang through my life was, “Do not underestimate me!” In 2008 and 2009, I could not get away from the book of Joshua. Part of my destiny lies within that book. God is trying to teach me something and grow me.

What are the themes that are running through your life; those things that God seems to bring to your attention over and over again? It is time to start paying attention. Journaling can help you do this.

God is constantly trying to change our character to resemble the Lord Jesus Christ. If you are journaling, you will begin to see God’s footprints threaded throughout your life. This will give you a clue as to what He created you for – the big picture – and also, His direction for your life NOW!  Follow His lead. When you notice that He is trying to grow your character, surrender to Him.

Journaling is one of the greatest tools God has used in my life to bring me in to an intimate walk with Him, to hear His voice clearly and to find clarity for His will and His purpose for my life.

He created each one of you uniquely; He has a purpose for your life, a destiny so to speak. It all depends on your willingness to follow Him. If you cooperate with God, what could have taken five years could be accomplished in one.

When you think about your life and especially the past year, how about the last 6 months, can you easily pull up all of the words God has given you? Can you remember everything that He has done? I don’t know about you, but I can usually remember the BIG things, it is the little things I forget. But with God, nothing that He says or does in our lives is little. It is all BIG. He is constantly building in our lives.

Journaling will help you be accountable to what God is asking you to do. I encourage you today to start writing what you see God doing in your life. If you are not sure that you know how to recognize His movements, read the article, Hearing God.

Begin your journey of discovery by making a list of key events in your life, dates included; and see if you can discover the thread of God’s footsteps. Your list might include your salvation experience, losses, life-changing movements, teachable moments, and profound words from God – passions, desires, dreams, prophetic words, times of preparation, life experiences, etc. When you are finished, pray over them and write about any connections or direction that you see.

Is there a dream in your heart that pops up continually? Pay attention! Is there something that you feel you were born to do? Where does your talent lie? What are your spiritual gifts? What type of people do you lean towards helping?

Take your time and continue adding to your list. Ask God to open your spiritual eyes to see.

And here’s a promise that will encourage you to seek Him.

The LORD will fulfill his purpose for me… Psalm 138:8

I [the Lord] will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you. Psalm 32:8
Journaling will slow you down long enough to hear and recognize God's voice.
